How We Pick

What we do

1. Every product is real and currently sold

Before a product appears on this site it is verified as an active listing. There are currently 64 products in our registry and every one of them was identified from published research and live retail listings, not from memory. A product that goes out of stock permanently gets removed rather than left to rot as a dead link.

2. Selection is evidence-based, not lab testing

This is the part worth being clear about. We do not have a testing lab and we have not destructively tested these products. You should be suspicious of any site claiming to have stress-tested ten wooden boards for a blog post.

What we work from instead:

• What is actually selling and being restocked. Sustained availability is a real signal in a category full of short-lived imports.
• Sustained customer feedback at scale. Not a handful of reviews, but patterns across thousands of them, and particularly the consistent complaints.
• Material and construction properties. How acacia behaves against bamboo, what 18/10 steel means, why laminated glass survives drops. These are knowable facts rather than opinions.
• Fit for the hosting use case. Which is where first-hand experience does the work — knowing that a 20-inch hardwood board loaded with food is a two-handed carry matters more than its dimensions.

3. Picks are chosen for the host, not the spec sheet

The organizing questions on every page are how many people is this feeding and what is the budget. Not which product has the longest feature list. That is why our roundups are ordered by guest count and use case rather than by price or brand.

4. We do not quote prices

Prices in this category move constantly. A number typed into a page in September is wrong by November, and a stale price is worse than no price because it looks authoritative.

So every product links to the live listing, where you see today’s price rather than ours. Where our system does carry verified live price data it is displayed with the date it was checked, and it disappears automatically once it is more than 48 hours old. Right now there is no live price data on this site, so every button reads “Check price on Amazon”.

5. Scores are editorial, and labeled as such

The numbers on our product cards are our own editorial rating against a published rubric of four to six criteria, shown on the page. They are a summary of our judgment, not a measurement. For that reason they never appear in this site’s structured data as a review rating, because presenting an editorial score as a tested review rating would be misleading to both readers and search engines.

6. Commission never affects ranking

We earn from qualifying purchases through the Amazon Associates Program. The order of picks is not for sale and never has been. If a cheaper product is the better buy, it goes first. Our editorial policy sets out the independence rules, and the disclosure explains the commercial relationship in full.

What we do not do

• No physical lab testing. Stated plainly on every roundup.
• No paid placements or sponsored picks. Nobody can buy a position on this site.
• No fabricated reviews or testimonials. We have no first-party reviews to show you, so we show none.
• No invented statistics or citations. Any figure carries a source. Where we give a working rule of thumb from experience, we say that is what it is rather than dressing it up as data.
• No products we cannot verify are currently sold.

Why some categories have fewer picks

Where a category genuinely has only a handful of good options, we list a handful. Padding a roundup to ten products by including four we would not recommend is a common practice and a bad one — it makes the page look thorough and makes the advice worse.

How often pages are updated

Product roundups are reviewed on a rolling basis, with priority given to pages where a pick has gone out of stock or been superseded. Guides and reference pages are reviewed when the underlying advice changes, which for things like how many appetizers per person is rarely. Every page shows its last updated date in the byline.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. The contact form is here. Corrections that change a recommendation get noted on the page rather than quietly edited.
